FireProducer Setup/Troubleshooting
  1. Please read the manual.

  2. Verify your Palm is configured for wireless.

Run FireViewer. Tap "My Links." If you receive an error, your Palm does not have a wireless data connection. Fix this by referring to your Palm manual, or by contacting Palm support.

  3. Verify you can receive video on your Palm.

Run FireViewer. Tap "My Links," then "Surveillance." Tap a few of the video demos shown there. If you see any kind of moving picture, then you are receiving video. If you see a black screen, it means the lights are off in our server room, but you are still receiving video! If you see a green screen, or receive an error, then your handheld is not receiving video, and you should contact us.

  4. Verify your video capture device is working.

Run FireProducer on your PC. Click "select capture device..." and attempt to choose your video device. If you don't see your video device there, it means you need to install a WDM-compatible driver for your video device. If you can select your device, but receive an error saying it's already in use, make sure you have shut off all other applications that may be using the video device (such as the video software included with the video device), wait a few minutes, and try again to choose the video device. If you receive an error that your device is not supported, try a different video device. After successfully selecting the capture device, click "Start Server". Video should appear in the left and right windows. If not, contact us with as much info as possible.

  5. Configure your firewall to allow your Palm to access your PC's FireProducer video stream.

You need to configure your router or firewall to permit external access to FireProducer. Go to your router or firewall configuration screen (typically a web page on your own subnet with an address like http://192.168.0.254). Go to the "Port Forwarding" area of your router configuration screen and forward all incoming connections on port 4712 to your PC running FireProducer. This will make FireProducer visible to any Treo that knows the IP address of your router. Here is a screen to show what a typical firewall setup looks like. Your hardware will vary. Now, to view video, run FireViewer on your Treo, choose the "Open Location..." menu item, and enter ftsp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, using your ROUTER's IP address in place of the x's. Do not enter the local IP address of your PC (192.168.0.xxx) on your Treo, because the Treo's internet connection is outside your own subnet. If this explanation is confusing, read all the definitions linked from this answer, as well as your own router's instruction manual. If you're still stuck, contact Firepad Support.

  6. How do I find out my IP address?

Go to Start menu, Programs..., Command Prompt, then at the c prompt type "ipconfig". You will receive information on your IP address. Please note, if you are using a dial up connection, your ISP may give you a new IP address each time you dial up. So you will have to check each time. To obtain a fixed IP address, please contact your ISP.

  7. How can I share my streaming video?

Once you have successfully set up your FireProducer with a fixed IP address that is reachable from the Internet, you may submit your IP address to have a link to your FireProducer installation added to the video sharing site at fireviewer.com. To do so please send your IP address to Firepad Support.
